        • Outreach and Admissions Phase

During the Outreach and Admissions process, students are finding out about Job Corps and determining whether or not it's the right program to meet their current educational and career development needs. Admissions Counselors are marketing Job Corps programs and recruiting students who can benefit from the Job Corps experience. They are also assisting students in the first decision they need to make -- is Job Corps right for them?

          Admissions Counselors are:

          • Developing community education programs and creative outreach networks.
          • Marketing to youth development agencies.
          • Educating One-Stops.
          • Working with prospective students to help them identify their interests, aptitudes, work values and other issues impacting development of a career plan.
          • Assisting prospective students in developing their career plans and identifying career goals to determine if Job Corps is a good match for the student's life plan.
          • Educating prospective students about the Job Corps experience and expectations, Center life and vocational offerings so that students can decide if Job Corps is the right program for them.

          Customized Workshops

Assessment Basics: This one-day workshop focuses on the types of assessment that should occur during the O/A phase to assist students in making a decision about attending Job Corps. Participants are introduced to various tools and strategies for assessing student interests, aptitudes, work values and barriers and learn how to use this information to help the student make an appropriate decision. Techniques for both individual and group orientation and assessment are examined.

Marketing Job Corps: In this one-day, hands-on workshop, participants learn the basics of marketing -- how to identify target populations for recruitment, developing marketing messages that appeal to different target groups, identifying marketing strategies that will get the message out, and evaluating the effectiveness of the marketing plan. They will leave the workshop with a detailed marketing plan for reaching a specific student population.

Community Education & Outreach: Recognizing that the development of community recruitment networks is a key marketing strategy for Admissions Counselors in reaching prospective students, this one-day workshop focuses on developing outreach, education and marketing strategies for community partners. Participants learn how to identify quality community referral sources and how to develop a marketing and education plan that gets results. They will also learn how to evaluate the success of community referrals and to refine marketing plans to better meet Job Corps needs.
