        • Career Transitioning Phase

The ultimate goal of the Job Corps experience is for students to find and keep career path opportunities that allow them to become self-sufficient. In Career Transitions, they are further refining their job search and job keeping skills, mastering the transition from Center life to independent living.

During this phase, Center staff, Job Corps Service Providers and Placement Agencies support graduates in obtaining their first jobs, retaining employment and moving into a career path for self-sufficiency. They provide the following services in support of this:

          • Guiding students in developing and implementing a job search and one-year career plan designed.
          • Brokering for supportive services and working with graduates to help them link to and obtain services necessary to obtain and maintain employment.
          • Developing an ongoing relationship with graduates that encourages them to share information and identify problems early on so that the staff person can assist in retention and advancement.
          • Helping the graduate to continue to develop job retention and advancement and career management skills so that the graduate has the ability to manage his/her own career issues.
          • Developing effective linkages and partnerships with local businesses so that appropriate referrals can be made and staff can work with businesses to address their specific needs in working with Job Corps graduates.
